One of the downsides of a fast-paced modern lifestyle is that it becomes highly likely to experience stress and anxiety on a daily basis. This poses a health risk for those who aren’t able to cope and manage their stress. Thus it is important to have a few relaxation tools on hand to keep stress at bay. We may not be able to control external stressors but with the right tools you can vanquish stress before it gets worse. Not just that, these tools can work without you having to spend much money or any money at all.

Deep Breathing. Taking deep breaths is one of the best ways to keep yourself calm. When one is stressed or anxious the body usually responds with a mix of tight muscles, increased heartbeat, shallow breaths, and sometimes headaches or chest pains. You can help bring your body back to its normal or relaxed state with a few breathing exercises. These exercises are basic relaxation tools that you can use to prepare yourself for the day or relieve you from stress that comes in the middle of work.

The simplest breathing exercise is focused breathing. All you have to do is close your eyes then slowly take a big and deep breath. Do this for a few times, imagining that you are inhaling some peace and calm every time you breathe in. Then imagine all the stress and tension in your body being released every time you breathe out. Do this repeatedly for 10 to 20 times, savouring every breath you take during the exercise.

Mind and Body Exercises. These relaxations tool can be part of your daily or weekly wellness routine. They usually involve breathing exercises, mental relaxation, and physical exercise. Three of the popular mind and body exercises used for stress relief include meditation, yoga, and Tai Chi. You can easily find routines or exercise guides for meditation, yoga, and Tai Chi online or in videos and books. There are also classes you can take to make it more fun and to incorporate socialization in your stress relief routine.

Relaxing Hobbies and Leisure Activities. Another way to keep stress at bay is to engage in hobbies or activities that you love to do. Solitary activities that require some sort of mental focus are sometimes the best relaxation tools to beat daily stressors. These may include painting, reading a book, gardening, sewing, etc. Activities that allow your mind to focus on things that you love can help your body relax and simple enjoy the moment.
