Classic blue may be 2020’s colour of the year but when it comes to shopping, I suggest we go green. This means choosing eco-friendly products for our daily needs including beauty routines. The good news is natural and eco-friendly beauty products are no longer challenging to find. They are available in most health and beauty shops and even online. Thus it shouldn’t be too hard for you to adopt a greener beauty routine in 2020. Here are some areas where you can start your switch to a green routine.

Ingredients. Choosing products that are made from natural or organic ingredients can help you switch to a greener beauty routine in 2020. Aside from making sure that the products are free from harmful chemicals and gentle on your skin, they are also considered environmentally safe.   If you don’t have time to go over the ingredients of every beauty product you buy then you can just look for eco-friendly stamps or certifications. Retailers and beauty editors usually give their stamp of approval for products that meet their eco-friendly standards with such stamps. For instance, Sephora has their Clean at Sephora stamp for products that do not contain harmful chemicals.

Packaging. Waste is one of the biggest environmental concern that we have today. Thus using products with minimal packaging can help ease the trash concerns or at least decrease your contribution to the problem. One good example is to consider using shampoo bars instead of bottled shampoo and avoid shampoo sachets altogether. Shampoo bars are usually packaged in paper or boxes that are made from biodegradable materials. This means no plastic shampoo bottle to throw out every time you run out of shampoo.

Refillable Products. Another great way to go about your greener beauty routine in 2020 is to patronize refillable beauty products. Brands like Dove and Tresseme are available at select refilling stations in order to minimize plastic bottle waste. There are also eco-friendly cosmetic brands that sell make-up refills to minimize waste.

Beauty Tools. Your choice of beauty tools can also pave the way for a greener beauty routine in 2020. Avoiding disposable tools and choosing brushes made from natural and sustainable materials helps minimize your carbon footprint. Cotton pads used for make-up removal can be replaced with a reusable make-up eraser . There are also organic and reusable make-up removal pads made from bamboo materials that you can opt for.
