Beach Buddies: Gadgets to Pack Alongside the Sunscreen

You don’t require many bells and whistles to attract people to the beach. But things have evolved since days of transistor radios and bare feet. Science and common sense remind us to bring along sunscreen. But what other goodies are advanced, convenient, or just fun to bring to the beach?

UV Monitor

Moms and dads worry about their children’s exposure to the sun. You can buy sunblock but kids keep running, sweating, and going in and out of the water. When do you stop dousing them with sunblock and when do you let them be? Use a handy UV monitor that measures rays throughout the beach day.

Ebook Reader

E-readers are nothing novel but they are revolutionary when it comes to the beach. Traditionally, one packed light so it’s easier to trek to the beach. That meant taking a chance on a book you may or may not like. But with an e-reader, you can take your entire library with you. If you’re worried about sand, try placing a thin plastic bag over the face so you don’t have to touch it with sandy hands.

Roaming Metal Detector

Using a metal detector after a crowded beach day is smart. Finders keepers… However, it’s not fun to walk around when you could be getting a tan instead. No problem. A remote-controlled dune buggy can cruise around while detecting any metal in the sand. Better yet, have the kids look for coin and treasure while you catch rays and fresh air.

Waterproof Cards

People have been playing cards at the beach for decades. It’s about time someone thought of creating waterproof cards that won’t get ruined by the salt, sand, and sea. Why play poker while sweating on the sand? Play amidst the water and waves.

Weather App

An Android weather app is a great tool to have. For one, you can access the forecast function to know whether it will be a good day to go to the beach at all. Secondly, get up to the minute details about wind, incoming inclement weather, and more.

Tandem Hovercraft

Imagine the look of envy on the faces of those ashore as you whiz on by in your two-person hovercraft. It’s a bit pricy, but can you put a tag on summer fun? It doesn’t break-down as easily as a beach chair yet it will offer a lot more entertainment.

Sunless Tattoos

You may have played a prank on your friends in the past, waiting for them to fall asleep on the beach and then writing something derogatory on their chest with sunblock. However, today it’s cool to have a sunless tattoo. But, rather than rely on the creativity of friends, you can purchase stickers made for the occasion.

Medic Balloon
Well, it’s not really medical equipment or tech advanced but a balloon can come in very handy on the beach. Every person gets clogged ears yet few know that they can get clear through the use of a balloon. Simply try to inflate it as your ears get clearer.
