The importance of health has never been more highlighted than during the past year. But even with Covid 19 vaccines around the value of living a healthy lifestyle shouldn’t be taken for granted. One way to promote and preserve this lifestyle is to teach our kids about the importance of health at an early age. Here are some ideas on how to go about it.

Make the right food choices. Preparing healthy meals is the first step in promoting a healthy lifestyle. Most kids enjoy eating sweets, chips, or junk food that are often just empty calories and rich in preservatives. They are made to be enjoyed by the palate but it deprives your body from the nutrients it needs. The best way to provide the body with the nutrients it needs is a good mix of protein, grains, fruits, and vegetables in your diet. With this in mind you can train kids to make smart food choices by serving healthy meals. Remember you don’t have to go with the junk in order to serve savory dishes. Sometimes its even more delectable to eat food made from fresh quality ingredients stored in your ref or pantry.

Acknowledge that being fit helps your kids feel fine. Physical fitness have long been recognized as a factor in staying healthy. Aside from building muscles and removing excess fat, physical activities also help promote cardiovascular and respiratory health. Being fit also has a positive effect on one’s mental health and general wellness. But instead of harping on the importance of health and fitness, it may be more effective to engage in fun fitness activities that your kids enjoy. This way getting fit and active won’t feel like something that they “have” to do but something that they want to do. There are fun fitness videos that you can use for home work out if outdoor activities are restricted. The important thing is for the body to get its recommended dose of daily physical activity.

Make a habit out of it. Living a healthy lifestyle isn’t something that you pick up or drop whenever it’s convenient. If you really value the importance of health, then  make it a habit to take care of your body. Its good if your kids already had an early start in making healthy choices, because it can be a challenge to get rid of unhealthy habits once kids acquire it. However, if your kids make a habit out of eating right and keeping fit then being healthy is going to be effortless.
