Wedding Attire Advice – what should I wear!?

You’ve been invited to a wedding. You know where it’s taking place and on what date. Now the big question is, what should you wear? You may be advised on the dress requirements on the invitation you receive; this is particularly likely if the event is formal or black tie. This advice may not be a lot of use if you are unsure what the different dress terms mean.

Before you go shopping for the perfect outfit, at online retailers such as Joyluxe Boutique, you need to know exactly what you are looking for. This makes it far easier to make the ideal selection from their wide range of trendy and stylish outfits.

The casual look

Just in case there is anyone out there who thought it might, the word casual, when referring to dress etiquette for a wedding, does not mean you should turn up wearing jeans and a hoodie. What casual does mean is that you can wear something you feel comfortable in. A simple pair of trousers, or skirt with a pretty but understated top usually works well. Casual also means you can leave the high heels at home and give your feet a break, although shoes are still the order of the day, not flip flops or sneakers.

What is dressy casual?

The Casual Look

The term dressy causal has most people confused at some point; after all it does some to be a contradiction in terms. In simple terms this simply means casual with some extra style. You may want to opt for a casual style with a material type that’s a little more upmarket. Alternatively, if it’s the middle of a hot summer and you don’t want to pass out with the heat, then a simple cotton   dress that has a more fitted and structured design will look great.

Going formal

In most cases there isn’t much difference between formal and black tie for the girls, although for the guys it means that they don’t have to wear a tuxedo. For ladies the only real difference is that you can usually get away with wearing a knee length cocktail dress, as long as it’s elegant; this is especially the case if the occasion is only semi-formal. You should always opt for a dress that is sophisticated and made from more elegant materials such as silk or velvet.

Black Tie

In some ways black tie is the easiest dress requirement. It’s simple, tuxedo for the guys and full length formal gown for you. It’s possible to get away with a really formal shorter length dress, but why not stick with tradition.

So there you go, dress codes for weddings are simple really. Of course, if no dress code is listed on the invitation it can get interesting. If you are really struggling to know what to wear then don’t be afraid to ask. You don’t have to bother the bride if you don’t want to; you can approach anyone who is involved with the organization of the day. We’ll leave you with three important things to remember when going to a wedding; never wear white, never look as though you’ve just got out of bed and always make sure you are dressed in a respectable manner.
